Freedom Of Fear is a metal band from Adelaide, Australia that performs a combination of tech-death, melodeath and melodic black metal.
Biography[]
Kingdom of Ashes
Freedom of Fear was founded in 2014 by guitarist / songwriter Matt Walters, and bassist Georgina Kittel. In 2015 they released their debut EP Kingdom of Ashes. In 2016 the band had some lineup changes, with Jade Monserrat replacing Jasper Farnham on vocals, Jarrad Taylor replacing Anthony Asimakopoulous on drums, and rhythm guitarist Mitch Pasquini leaving the band. Freedom of Fear opened for Ne Obliviscaris and The Ocean in late 2016, and in 2017 guitarist Corey Davis joined the band. In 2018 they played their first interstate show at Blacken Open Air.
Nocturnal Gates
In 2019 Freedom of Fear signed to EVP Recordings and released their debut album Nocturnal Gates, which debuted at #9 on the AIR Independent album charts in Australia. The band performed at Blacken Open Air. Bigsound Festival and following this drummer Jarrad Taylor parted ways with the band.
Later in the year Freedom of Fear toured Australia supporting Fleshgod Apocalypse, with session drummer Jake Sproule.
In 2020 Freedom of Fear supported Jinjer, Thy Art is Murder and Obituary.
Carpathia
in 2022 Freedom of Fear released their second album Carpathia, which debuted at #3 on the AIR Independent charts and garnered significant attention from the global underground metal community. Carpathia features session drummer Hannes Grossmann (ex-Necrophagist, Obscura), in addition to mixing by V. Santura (Triptykon, ex-Celtic Frost). The band played at festivals such as Froth and Fury and Blacken Open Air.
In 2023 Freedom of Fear opened for Soilwork, and were the first ever metal band to perform at Adelaide Guitar Festival. They also released a live cover single 'Concerto' which was performed at the festival.
In 2024, they toured Australia supporting Carcass and The Black Dahlia Murder, played their first international show at Hammersonic Festival in Jakarta, and toured Europe with Ne Obliviscaris. Liam Weedall joined as their new full time drummer.
In 2025 Freedom of Fear supported Dethklok on their Awakening Australia tour, and bassist Georgina Kittel left the band to focus on family life.
