Jo Lawry is a singer from Adelaide, South Australia.

Biography[]

Lawry grew up in Adelaide and studied Jazz Performance at the Elder Conservatorium.

Lawry has since performed with many notable acts including Sting, with whom she has recorded and toured. She provided backing and duet vocals on Sting's 2010 studio album Symphonicities, and she appeared on-stage with him as a vocalist on the 2010 television special Live in Berlin. She is also featured in the documentary film 20 Feet from Stardom.

Lawry's debut album, I Want to Be Happy, was released in 2008. Down Beat gave it 4.5 out of 5 and selected it as one of the "Best CDs of the 2000s". In addition to working with her own Quintet she is the vocalist for the Fred Hersch Pocket Orchestra and James Shipp's Nos Novos. Lawry has also performed on albums for such artists as Will Vinson and Adelaide's Quentin Angus.
