Woodville Concert Band is a community concert band of 45 members situated in the Western suburbs of Adelaide, South Australia, and is affiliated with the City of Charles Sturt. The Band's membership represents a good mix of ages and abilities on Woodwind, Brass and Percussion.
Biography[]
The Woodville Concert Band has a long history of creativity and success. Founded in 1982 by the now City of Charles Sturt council, the band now plays and encourages performances of new and creatives works in new ways and advocates bringing music to greater audiences with community involvement.
The band prides itself on its new and unique approach to the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble genre, performing new original works wherever possible. In 2017 to 2021 and again in 2023 to 2024 the band performed it it's own Music With Motion, a multimedia show combining clips of video games to completely new and original arrangements by Nathan Cummins.
The Concert Band plays a variety of different styles of music, including but not limited to: video game music, classical pieces and symphonies, original compositions, Big Band, Jazz & Swing, Movie and TV themes, Marches and Classics, Pop and Rock and Show tunes. The band plays at a variety of engagements in the community including public concerts and private functions. It performs for Council organised events including citizenship ceremonies, and for nursing homes and other private businesses and organisations, including notable businesses such as the Adelaide Crows Foundation and Welcome to Australia.
Music Director[]
The Woodville Concert Band is directed by Dr Nathan Cummins. He recently graduated from the University of Adelaide’s Elder Conservatorium of Music with a Doctor of Philosophy after a Bachelor of Music Composition with First Class Honours. He is an active member of the Adelaide band scene and among his involvement in local musicals, productions, and bands playing whatever instrument he can lay his hands on, he is Music Director of the Woodville Concert Band.
